Now available on DVD for PAL all-region players – Crazy About Jane.

A behind the scenes look at the largest international festival celebrating Jane Austen.
Shot in the city of Bath, UNESCO world heritage city, England,

the documentary provides a fascinating insight into why Jane Austen’s popularity continues to flourish.
With interviews, performances, dancing, live music, manners, etiquette, diet and
the inside story of the modern day rejection of Jane’s most famous novel,
Crazy About Jane is a must have for Jane Austen fans.

This unique documentary made by Bath based film makers Nautilus Moving Image,
provides a rare opportunity to meet the fascinating people behind the festival,
including the Festival Director David Lassman. David was famously rejected by publishing houses
after submitting an almost exact copy of Jane’s most famous novel ‘Pride and Prejudice’
under the pseudonym ‘Alison Laydee’  after Austen’s early pseudonym ‘A Lady’.
Even Jane Austen’s own publisher, Penguin rejected the novel describing his plagiarised chapters as
“a really original and interesting read” but not right for Penguin.
None of the publishers spotted the plagiarised book, simply rejecting it.
David tells us about the international interest in Jane’s novels,
which have been translated into 25 different languages
with two novels consistently in the best sellers list.

We also meet classical pianists Penelope Cave and Helena Brown
who perform music from Jane’s very own songbook – music written in her own hand.
The music is performed on a traditional harpsichord –
one of the best of it’s time and used in the Hollywood film Emma.

Internationally celebrated artist Kim Hicks also features
performing an extract from her widely acclaimed one woman Jane Austen show.

Clips of her performance are now available to watch on our You Tube channel

An exclusive invitation to the film makers ensured their presence at the Grand Regency Ball
the culmination of a years preparation for Jane Austen fans and enthusiasts.
From the handcrafted costumes, refined etiquette, dance, music and authentic card games
the Ball is the highlight of the unique festival.  Amongst all major television network requests
only Nautilus Moving Image were permitted exclusive and unrestricted access to the whole event.
On the provision that our film Directors and presenter wore only regency costume,
they revisited the many enthusiasts and experts they’d met during the filming of the documentary.
There is no other event in the world that is so completely dedicated to the Regency period,
insisting on an authentic venue and accurate period dress from their guests
resulting in total immersion into a world of everything Austen.

With a renewed understanding of why people are so enthralled with Jane Austen,
literature, period re-enactments and historical entertainment we are proud to present
